1) I didn't know that the Republican party was founded by an Anti-slavery activist.
2)The Democratic party has the lengthiest record of continuous operation in the United States.
3)Early Republican slogan in 1856 was "Free Labor, Free land, Free men" which was created by Salmon P. Chase all three having specifics meanings towards slavery.
4)In Midwestern states the eagle is the symbol for republicans and the rooster for democrats
5)The independent party split into two groups and neither has had success on the ballot but they have a flag people!
Other things in the Modern Era that I didn't know:
1) I didn't know that Insurers refused to cover kids with pre-existing medical conditions.
2)Insurance companies arbitrarily capped and canceled coverage and charged women more simply because of their gender.
---The Democratic Health Care plans to put a stop to those two.
3) I didn't know that Mitt Romney's tax plan was to "extend the 2001 and 2003 tax relief packages-commonly known as the Bush tax cuts-pending reform of the tax code, to keep tax rates from rising on income, interest, dividends, and capital gains" (GOP.com)
